i want a bicycle. i have wanted one for quite sometime and after spotting the urban outfitters bike shop where you can customize a bike i have been on the look out.

i have been watching a few on ebay. there are so many restored vintage ones but a wicker basket and white frame would have to be the way to go.

finally as i am ready to depart from this house i have some finished pictures of my decorated home. my absolute favorite room to decorate and the first to be done was o's. it was inspired by woodland creatures and included lots vintage bits and pieces.

in the new house we will say good bye to the crib and hello to a new big boy bed. and i am sure i will make a few other changes just to mix it up.

i am a little behind the times and am just getting around to seeing this adorable movie. O and i found some time and watched it (minus the first 16 mins which are a bit too crazy for a not yet 3 year old).

he even came up to me with his tongue out and licked me like one character does in the movie. i had to laugh, hope he doesnt do that at play school.

the last few weeks have been that of new beginnings. some how it finally feels like my time here in oz is starting. we (back to O & I) are moving to a new home mid june and although I feel like I might be stepping back for a moment it is still in the right direction.

i had every intention of getting into the easter spirit and making some eggs with O but with just general craziness happening around here i am not going to be able to find the time to do this neat project that i came across a few weeks ago for silk tie dyed eggs. this idea is so fantastic and produces some really beautiful results. martha stewart has the instructions on her site. there are a heap of amazing examples of eggs that could be created at the june brides flickr account.

next year i will definitely be more organized and do this for O. plus i have a whole year to op shop and find the vintage ties, i just love this concept.

but this one by elsie marley would have to be at the top of my list as O definitely has a tendency to loose his pants quite often. these belts are so cute and funky. i want one of each (for O of course not me).

it seems that a new favorite color has crept in. i tend to buy everything in bluish grey, plum or olive and now mustard has been included as well. it started with a dress that i saw on some girls wander that i found and on ebay and am waiting to receive in the mail. i believe it would be a dress quite well know in america as even natalie portman has been photographed in the dress but over here in oz it will be nothing most have seen before and i love the color.

now i am spotting the color ever where else including the front page of etsy where i really love the madebyhank purse and crocheted earrings by gracendignity. maybe a few more packages will be on their way as well then.
i can definitely see this color finding its way into my home as well as my wardrobe.

i received a very nice email the other day regarding some photos that person had seen of my henna and it has really inspired me to take the time to rediscover my love of mehndi. i do tend to doodle the patterns continually but have not got the henna out in some time. i always enjoyed the fact that i could work on a living canvas and the way it makes people feel.

my goal over the next few weeks will be to mix up a batch and find some skin to paint on... which should not be too hard to find... just need some time.

the wonderful lisa at parallel botany sent me an email to inform me of a fantastic project that two lovely blogs madebyrae and made have put together. and for the whole month of February they will be celebrating the boy and crafting projects related to the little men in our lives since they seem to get lost in the world of crafting for little girls.

i am excited to see what they come up with because as you may have noticed i am always on the search for handmade goodies for o and when i find the time to undergo a few myself.

we have been busy. along with the house the yard has also receive some attention in the form of a veggie garden. we have had lovely crops of mostly tomatoes and zucchini but also cucumber and an endless supply of any herb i could put in the ground. O is fascinated by being able to pick the fruit off the plants and popping them right in his month. and i have enjoyed cooking up amazing meals using mostly the bounty from our little backyard. the best one so far has been the baked zucchini fritters from fresh365.

and this is what we harvested just today.

i just adore this new kindred site that i have discovered. it is a great Australian based natural parenting magazine and site that contains some very informative articles from international sources. i cannot seem educate myself enough about the different methods of parenting and there are so many useful pieces on the website.

there really is an article about anything for both parents with some difficult topics as well. and there is a new website to come soon.

i realized today that it has been two weeks since my last post and i was was supposed to be sharing more progress the next day. but here it is now.

the second project on the house was the kitchen. we opted to go with an ikea kitchen and M installed it all by himself with the odd request for my help. we finally have all the cupboards (one of the down falls of ikea, not everything is in stock at once).

it is a huge difference from where we first started but there are a few last things to finish up before i do the final reveal.

it has been a month since we moved into our home and finally i am able to share a few photos of the progress. the first project we tackled was the floors and since they are throughout the whole house it was a larger task then first thought but here is the before, during and a peak at the now.

we wanted to go with a richer color for the floors since the walls will be all white and i am quite happy with the way it has turned out.

there is limited furniture right now as we search around for the pieces that we need which means lots of space for O to run around in. i ll share some photos of the kitchen tomorrow as it is coming along quite nicely.

in my almost daily searches on ebay for vintage furniture i have discover the most fabulous local home decor store and i finally made my way down there the other day. lets say that i was truly inspired by this little street doted with trendy clothing stores, cafes and one beautifully decorated shop called one small room .

i could have bought everything in store but i just bought what we needed which were some great mid century dining chairs. they need a bit of new fabric to bring them up to date but that is just another project on the list to do.

so it has been awhile since i have been here but i have good reasons. obviously first the move into the new house and the renovations that have begun and not stopped but i was also with out internet for a good few weeks which was somewhat interesting. i have lots to report but i am not sure where to start other than with some pictures and i have to dig out my camera cord so i can upload all before and nows to show you.

so i am just popping into say that i will be back very soon so i can start sharing all the new news in our life and that we are in love with our new house.

breathing new life into old linens is done so nicely by old yarns. i just purchased some vintage flour sacks and will become pillows for O's room at some stage and this is some wonderful inspiration.

this is the most wonderful book that i have picked up in a long time. it contains so many useful ways to create a peaceful and rhythmic family home and is based on the waldorf philosophy. author sharifa oppenheimer also has a website with more information and reviews about the book.

my favorite part of the book so far are evening meal blessings to say with your children, it is a simple ritual that i have overlooked because i wasnt sure how to do it without it being based on a religious tradition.

it has also helped me with some more ideas with a bedtime routine. O has always gone to bed without too much fuss but i always hoped for something even calmer and very rhythmic. making a few minor adjustments is already making a difference and that will only get better when he has his new space in our new home. with all the changes that have gone on lately he has done so well with very few hiccups, children are resilient but i cannot help be a little amazed with my little guy.

i think he would really enjoy a little space just for himself and this teepee that i found is such a great option.

in just over three weeks M and i have accomplished alot on our to do list. we got the house and now i have a car and a mobile phone too. i feel a bit more settled now that i have a few things that connect me to the outside world and as of wednesday when the car is dropped off i will be able to venture out by myself with O. i am very excited about the car, it is much more spacious than my last and has 4 doors so no more leaning over to get O in the back seat... my back will be saved. well aside from that i am thinking craft stores and thrift shops will be a good start on where we can go as i want to start getting a few more things to fill up the house since we are only two weeks away from taking possession.

we have also had to start planning so of the specifics for the renovations for our new home. we are going to be doing a bit of work before we move in and then continuing on the not so tricky things later on. the three big things on the list are refinishing the hardwood floors, repainting the whole house including trim and doors as well as a new kitchen. i think the kitchen is the most fun part for me because i really want it to be the center of the home and have dreamed of the style i wanted for sometime. to finally be able to get it. the feel that i want throughout our home is for it to be calm and organic by using natural and rustic materials.

i am really into the idea of felting. i bought some beautiful roving from windrose and have been looking for as many projects to use it up.

i found this felted stone project from made in lowell and i have completed six stones so far. it is surprisingly easy and so much fun to do. i might end up with a ton more at this rate just want to wait and see how these look when they are dry.

the idea for the felted acorns goes along with the nature table that i want to create in our home for things that we find on little walks and such. the nature table is a waldorf home essential that it typically changed seasonally.

on my search for some inspirational tables i also discovered the blog of soule mama who has her nature table in the front entry of her home. i think it is a wonderful idea to have it right at the entrance to the home so that it can collect wonderful bits of the outside. the blogs keeper is amanda blake soule who had two fabulous books both of which are on my list to get. with some many things to look at online i never get the chance to look further into little things that i find inspire me until it jumps onto my screen as amanda's blog did today. just never enough time to read about what everyone is doing when you have your own life to live but this blog was a welcome break today as i took a little look into her life as an author and mother of four.

one thing that i have been doing for O is planning out his new bedroom, i am sure the decor element is not as appreciated at his age but some day perhaps. either way i thought i would share some of the elements for his room that i have purchased and am waiting to receive. i wanted to do a sort of theme but something that he can grow with. and of course the other focus will be handmade by me or others.

i have purchased the birch tree fabric from ink & spindle for some pillows. the horned owl pillows are from lolley land and i got the one in baby blue.

i adore this new growth print from ground work. it fits in perfectly to concept for the bedroom plus i love faux bois. one of my other favorite elements that helped inspire the room is a olive green knitted blanket than O's auntie made him for his first christmas. it is wonderfully thick and cozy which is much needed at night without the central heat.

some other crafty projects for me will include a bird mobile using the spool bird pattern. and some felted acorns using these cute acorn caps. needless to say i am excited to get into the house so i can start putting together O's room, it is the first thing on my list to do as far as decorating. now i just need to find some furniture for him as well.

not much to report over the last week or so but we have had a few birthdays. well mine yesterday and O's today. i cant believe my little baby is no longer so little.

i am more than disappointed with myself as far as party planning because i have nothing planned. we are having our little family celebration, just the three of us tonight and then tomorrow something with a few more friends and family. i have stuck to my promise which was making O his birthday cake every year. it is nothing like the rocket ship wonder that i did last year but none the less i think it is special because i am taking the time to make it for him. i will excuse myself this year from having a real party for him but will have to make it up next year with a neat theme and all the fun to go with it.

i feel so inspired to have some plant life in our home. i have attempted houseplants in the past with not much luck. i think the solution to that is low maintenance plants to start and along with the moss terrariums i believe succulents would be just as easy to keep alive. greenware designs on etsy do such cute arrangements in sweet little pots.

i dont imagine these could be shipped to australia as they are in the us but i think i might be able to manage giving an arrangement a go myself.

another wonderful part of finally being together is that i get to cook for more than just myself and o. it helps that m like to eat and seems to very much appreciate the meals i put together. last night i made a sweet corn and chicken soup recipes from the newest real living and it was a huge hit. and yes i said chicken, the once vegetarian lifestyle is no longer. i have not switched over to eating huge quantities of meat but it has crept back into my diet over the past few months as i wasnt feel it as much of a health benefit as i once thought. i am finding a new balance with this addition but i still love my veggie food so i cannot guarantee non-veg in every meal. the ideal that i want to focus on and make sure o understands is more about being conscious of what we eat and where it comes from. i am really enjoying some of the new discoveries here in oz even at the super market. i pick up an organic yogurt that i thought looked wonderful and upon using it last night as a garnish to the soup realized that is actually not only organic but also made by a biodynamic farm in the adelaide hills.

the nicest part of some of these discoveries is having the time to explore them further and cooking is definitely on the top of the list. i used to get stuck making the same old things but now having a little bit more time for it i am really getting back into it. tonight i am making tacos but not just any tacos. some years ago on a trip to california we stopped at a little beach side taco stand and they made the simplest but most wonderful pulled pork tacos so you guessed it, thats what i am making. i dont follow recipes well because i would rather improvise but the general idea is create something similar to the ones i had back in the day. pulled pork topped with shredded red cabbage and a few fresh made salsas. i will probably throw together a guacamole as well just to make it a little more interesting.

we can officially check off one of our biggies on the to do list. we got the house!

we will take possession in about 4 weeks and then the renovating, decorating and such begins. but thats all the fun stuff so i am very happy.

it is amazing to me that when you really want something to happen by planting that seeding and really believing that it will grow it will come to be reality. everything is truly falling into place, one thing after another is happening rather seamlessly with just the odd bump or two. i have always been a dreamer and if i visualize things over and over as i do they happen. at times it can be very hard to stay positive when things stand it the way but keeping the dream at the forefront is so important to get through those times. right now i am only seeing the clearest of paths without a single obstacle in sight and i am going to enjoy this moment and all the wonderful things that are in the making right now.

we are five days into our lives today and accomplished a fair bit already. this morning we put an offer in on a house that we both love and obviously very much hope to get. so in anticipation of being able to decorate our new home i am going through the pile of fabulous australia design magazines real living and inside out that m got for me including a heap of back issues! i think most of the excitement is because i have no idea where to go to get the things that i want and it somewhat relieving to have some help from these magazines.

now i just have to patiently wait to hear back from the real estate agent about the result of the offer. the process is quite different here so that doesnt make this any easier. hopefully i will have good news by the end of the day.

i am just taking a moment amongst all the unpacking to breathe and catch up on some blogs. lisa at parallel botany posted about a site i hadnt seen before ofifteen magazine which is full of great posts with the addition of articles by other bloggers which i love as well.

i like to read my horoscope from time to time because it can be great insight into whats to come or just give you a second to reflect on the current situation. i am on the cusp so i tend to read both cancer and leo and find a balance somewhere in the middle. it amazes me how true they can seem.

so we arrived a few days ago and are recovering from jetlag. we had a very good trip, O did so well and i couldnt be more pleased by that. M is already back to work today so i am at home for the first day by myself. there is a fairly long to do list so i dont feel too lost but sometimes a little bit of fear about what i need to do to keep me busy creeps in. all in all i am glad to be back here and relieved that the trip portion is over. looking forward to all the fun stuff to come in the next few weeks. so the journey continues.

my first little project that i am excited about is creating a few terrariums. they seem to be all the rage on etsy right now and was so excited to find some moss hanging around here that insisted on being dug up for my little gardens. these are some of the cute terrariums and accessories that i found.

i think this is just the type of gardening that i should start with as well because they only need to be watered every few weeks.

i have not disappeared off the planet rather just been so relieved that M and i are finally together that i have been too preoccupied to post. we havent got around to doing too much, M is just getting over the jetlag and settling in. we have a few to do's and hopefully some time to catch up with friends and a day in the mountains is sounding pretty tempting.

its done. the house is clean and i have left the keys for the new owner. the actual possession date isnt until tomorrow but it feels so good to have that part done. i am not even sure what to do next since i have been so busy. perhaps it is time to take a moment to relax but some how i am sure i can still find a ton of things to do.

today i moved the balance of my things to my parents home from my house. i have until monday and then it is no longer mine. i have been so busy preparing for the move and all the goes along with it that i havent had an opportunity to think about how sad it is that i am leaving the home that O and i shared together. it was the place he was born and his home for the last two years.

as last night was the last time we would sleep there and the house was virtaully empty it seemed a little strange. i am glad to be in a house with furniture again (my parents) and so i begin to daydream about decorating a new home. only fun times ahead.

i can sense that this is a very powerful documentary and the topic of balance is one that many woman face on many different levels. the website also has more information on the artists in the film.

mixed in with all the sadness of leaving those i love and joy in joining another that i love is also a little bit of fear. and it is only because of how vastly my path is going to change.

i have had the role of a single working mother and that has been some what time consuming so there has been little time left for me. as i move forward into my new life which will include having my partner by my side on a day to day basis things i imagine will change. also my role as Os mother will become even more full time because i will be able to stay home with him. i hope to find a better balance in the new slightly different roles that i will be in and with that i am able to rediscover some thing s about myself that i may have forgotten. i think many women and especially mothers strive to find that balance.

whenever i need some inspiration it always come my way. a few days ago i discovered a beautiful blog and her journey that she shares. denise lynette andrade is so brave in what she puts out there. in each of her posts there is nothing but complete honestly and the story of her path that she has so graciously shared with the world has been a difficult one. i would strongly recommend checking out her blog as she is also an amazing photographer.

yesterday i took most of the stuff that i am taking with me to oz over to my mums. all the material things that i have collected over the past eight years are to fit into six suitcases. as well i believe i have done with purging there is still more to be done because i do not actually think it will fit in just those suitcases. it is time to get brutal and break free of material possessions. something like Os baby clothes and such i cannot bare to part with, they are a reminder i need to keep as he is getting so big and looks less and less like my little baby.

i think one of the essential keys to simplicity is minimizing material possessions. and that is a huge part of this journey that i am on so i will keep that in mind when i repack my suitcases for the tenth time.

for the last four year i have shared a little corner of the world with a handful of very lovely people that are my neighbors and also wonderful friends. i am not sure how it is that such a group of like minded people were placed together but i know it was for a reason. on friday evening we all got together for dinner as this is really my last weekend in my home before i head over to my parents house before i leave.

i know that this will not be the last time our paths cross but its just as i have mentioned before i wish i could just keep all the good parts of now and take it with me to what the future holds.

i mentioned this blog before and i was reading this post which i really enjoyed. i have always attempted to put O to bed and it has worked until recently. he has boundless energy so even by bedtime he still wants to keep on going, i am sure that this is nothing new for most parents. there are so many parenting books that i want to get right now but i think this one may go on the list as well “The 7-o’ clock Bedtime: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a child healthy, playful and wise” by Inda Schaenen.

the portion of the post that i really enjoyed was that carrie tells of how her and the children put the house to bed and sometimes sing it a lullaby. that is just the sweetest thing that i have heard in awhile because i can imagine O as he is getting more and more chatty saying good night to things around the house.

or maybe he just needs a new bedroom, one with things on the walls and furniture. perhaps i purged too soon.

M arrives on the 25th and will be spending a week in calgary before we head back together. i cant say enough about the fact that he is coming here to bring me home with him. besides being completely romantic its going to be wonderful to have help with the almost two year old O on the way back.

i am having one of those days where i am day dreaming a bit more than normal. i believe it must coping mechanism as my to do list seems to be getting longer but really its not long now and this list will be a thing on the past.

my mum pointed me in the direction of this wonderful food blog. the name caught her attention as it did myself. the authors story of the name for the blog is very sweet just as the original story is as well.

Sydney based, Jules Clancy shares wonderful recipes and complete menus (which i love) including some really great aussie classics. this pavolva sounds devine with mango and of course passionfruit.

but i think it is the twists on the classics that sound ever so tempting. this fig and walnut version is fit for winter as the post explains. there are a heap of recipes that i am sure to use for future meals in my new life in Oz.

so much to do and so little time. i have exactly two weeks left before i am to move out of my little house. i feel like there a million things on my list but slowly i am getting there. purging has been the most difficult thing for me and i occasionally stumble wishing i could take it all with me but it is liberating when that feeling passes.

i just wanted to share one of my favorite projects with you from the purl bee, for me the best source of craft inspiration.

i adore these sampler pillow cases. and as always the step by step instructions with photographs included would make these a breeze to make. these are on my (fun) list of things to do when i get to Oz that is. back to packing and purging for me.

this article from the dalai lama was written many years ago and yet we still face the same problems through out the world. at times it seems like people are more aware and the green movement has be come more popular but we still have alot of work to do. the future is only borrowed from our children and future generations as they are the ones that will continue to live in it after we are gone.

An Ethical Approach to Environmental Protection

Peace and the survival of life on earth as we know it are threaten by human activities which lack a commitment to humanitarian values. Destruction of nature and nature resources results from ignorance, greed and lack of respect for the earth's living things.

This lack of respect extends even to earth's human descendants, the future generations who will inherit a vastly degraded planet if world peace does not become a reality, and destruction of the natural environment continues at the present rate.

Our ancestors viewed the' earth as rich and bountiful, which it is. Many people in the past also saw nature as inexhaustibly sustainable, which we now know is the case only if we care for it.

It is not difficult to forgive destruction in the past, which resulted from ignorance. Today, however, we have access to more information, and it is essential that we re-examine ethically what we have inherited, what we are responsible for, and what we will pass on to coming generations. Clearly this is a pivotal generation. Global communication is possible, yet confrontations take place more often than meaningful dialogues for peace.

Our marvels of science and technology are matched if not out-weighed by many current tragedies, including human starvation in some parts of the world, and extinction of other life forms.

Exploration of outer space takes place at the same time as the earth's own oceans, seas, and freshwater areas grow increasingly polluted, and their life forms are largely unknown or misunderstood.

Many of the earth's habitats, animals, plants, insects, and even microorganisms that we know of as rare or endangered, may not be known at all by future generations. We have the capacity, and the responsibility. We must act before it is too late.

how to catch a star

O loves his books, he has been flipping through board books for as long as i can remember. i came across this book that has been at my mums house and it is one of the few that is going to make the trip overseas with us. it is such a great story and i think O will really enjoy this as he gets older.

it is a very lovely story about catching your dreams and what little boy doesnt need a star to play hide-and-go-seek with.

a few days ago i posted about party themes for O's second birthday and came across some very inspiring ideas. but didnt realize that the actual invitations could be found so easily. holly from decor8 posted yesterday about the creator and her etsy shop. and of course the loveliness doesnt stop at the invitations.
she does custom couple portraits and even won a free people illustration contest. i have a feeling i may have to commission her for one of these portraits, they are just so wonderful.

merrilee also has the most beautiful blog with inspiring finds. we also have something in common, she has her own little O.

O's second birthday is fast approaching and with all the other planning i have to do i thought i should get a head start on a theme for this year. for his first i made a rocket ship cake which was a huge hit and because of how successful it actually was i have pledged to make a cake for him every year. i needed a bit of help with inspiration this year and of course the perfect blog appeared.

this is such a cute theme. since we will be in Oz by then and in the midst of winter i have to find an indoor theme that i love. and so the planning begins.

sometimes i am blown away by the fact that i havent come across a specific blog before but that might be because there are just so many good ones out there. i had heard of bloesem before but never taken the time to look further until i found bloesem kids. i love the feature knock knock which are open houses! this post in particular caught my eye, can you guess why?

today was a perfect sunday and a reminder of why i have been able to live here in calgary all these years.

i have been lucky enough to have my home extend beyond just the four walls that are my townhouse because of the wonderful neighbors that surround me. and it is not just one set but a handful of truly kindred spirits that adds to my sadness about moving away. O and i enjoyed the morning playing outside with other children and catching up with friends. some of which i wish i had an opportunity to know better and others that have been here just as long as i, but wonderful just the same.

our afternoon was spent with family and of course included more play, a bbq and just time together in the sun. although things are about to change drastically i can see the good that will come of this too.but i still pose the question why is it that i have to give up this only to gain something else. and my wish is to continue to share the journey with them which will be the case but just from afar.

online retail therapy

it is probably quite obviously that i do enjoy my retail therapy and online seems to be my preferred choice at the moment especially since i can buy something and have it ship directly to Oz. i am sure to have a nice little collection of packages waiting for me when i arrive.

my first stop is always etsy but ebay is coming up as a close second these days. the recent discovery of local ebay shops where you can buy online and then pick it up is the absolute best and is keeping my M very busy.

there are some pretty neat items out there but of course look so much more appealing when staged as these are. i wonder which ones will end up in our home.

the combination of vintage and new elements really maintain a nice balance. and the windows of this home have become the canvas for the natural beauty that surrounds it. with the display of branches inside as well there is a definite flow through out the home that seems so peaceful.

i ve seen the odd post or mention about bento boxes lately and i am starting to think it is a great idea. i dont really have anywhere that i need to take a lunch with me right now but i see picnics in the near future.

the shop from japan with love carries a great variety of japanese home wares and as cute as the cute bento boxes are i am still drawn to the simpler of the bunch and enjoy the natural lunch time brand. these are some of the lovelies that i just ordered. i cant think of a more stylish way to have eco friendly lunch. the shop owner sophia takami is so lovely, she is canadian and lives in japan with her husband. she also has an etsy store for more japanese goodies.

there are of course blogs for ideas on what to pack in them. like this one and this one.

i have purchased clothing and accessories from herbivore for years now and even for little O. my favorite tee of theirs that is no longer in store had the tag line we put the FU in tofu. their clothes make a statement!

i started out reading a great mag that they used to put out. they had so much great content but decided to put the focus on other things so it is no longer in production.

but they still have some back issues for sale. the travel issue is my all time favorite and such a great resource. they also carry a range of vegan, vegetarian, raw food and animal rights books.

i came across an interesting and informative blog so i thought to share. the blog introduction sums up the feel and intent of the website so much better than i could hope to.

A passageway, as one would guess, is a conduit to the next thing – a way that allows movement from one place, condition or stage to the other. This blog is entitled “The Parenting Passageway” as it is intended to help support and encourage parents as they journey from being a single individual and/or the duality of being a couple to being an awakened parent and unified family. The ideas here are not completely new, but hopefully will still provide you, the reader, with some “a-ha” moments of clarity to ponder in your parenting journey.

blog author Carrie writes some very enlightening articles in addition to the other great resource and books she posts about. topics include Waldorf education, home schooling, conscious parenting but also fun stuff like art and fairy tales. i will be a frequent visitor as i enjoy being continually inspired by like minded people and there is always more to learn.

morning routine

many years ago when i studied ayurveda (the indian science of life) my mentor had given us some essential morning rituals to follow. i was reminded of this from kurashi arekores post on her blog because of how wonderfully peaceful it seemed.

it maybe due to the general lack of sleep at my house but i have not been in the habit of following my once cherished routine for some time now.

the basis of it was to drink 2 glasses of room temperature water upon rising before anything else including brushing your teeth. walk around perferrably outside on grass for 5 minutes then continue with your normal morning routine. this simple little task used to make all the difference. another little secret is if you add a squeeze of lemon or lime it also aids in weight loss.

i hope to find a few moments in the morning for myself sometime soon... some how i think it is very possible!

i have been anxiously waiting for the last few things to fall into place with the conditions on my home being removed and the waiting is over. there is now nothing what so ever standing between M and i (except for a few thousand miles and another few weeks.
it has been difficult to be patient with all steps that had to happen to get to this point and i am generally at a loss for words... hence the few days i went missing over the long weekend just past. but now i can breathe again and will return here as i am feeling much more inspired.

the Montreal based artist captures fairy tale like images that i feel as though i could get lost in. they are truly beautiful.

i am a huge supporter of shopping local and i have found some amazing canadian artists on etsy. kate szabone with her self titled store is one that i visit often just to awe at the pieces she has created.

her jewellery is the essence of simple organic elegance. kate has recently started using 100% recycled gold in some of here pieces and all the stones are conflict free. if it was up to me and not my pocket book i would have one of everything from her store.

i will do a follow up when the custom one of a kind ring that i just purchased is ready and on my finger. and of course there is meaning behind the ring for me that i will share then as well. stay tuned.

consider the journey {linen}

until recently i was unaware of the origin of linen. but as my quest continues i discovered that it is indeed the fibers from the flax plant. the whole plant can be utilized for man made use which makes the idea of linen even more appealing.

the final result of the woven fibers along with the way the fabric continues to improve with age all contribute to my fixation with all things linen.

today i received the best present i could have on mothers day. my home sold so i am one step closer to making my way back to Oz. and with all the excitement that it brings it is a little bit sad to think of all that i leave behind.

although i am very new to the blogging community. i have been pushed (just what i needed) into getting this all started thanks to the blogging course Blogging Your Way run by decor8. the course sadly came to an end the monday just past but it has been a wonderful experience.

by gosh by golly: gaelana is a single mother, boutique owner, entrepreneur and so many other things while maintaining her idea of the good life. she shares all sorts of interesting finds.

the red thread: australian artist lisa shares the things that inspire her work and some other really great discoveries, she always has new captivating finds. i am a huge fan of the little story book tiles she creates which would be great to fill any corner of your home.

bondville: another great aussie blog. steph features australian artist, finds neat childrens clothing and so much more.

i would definitely recommend having a look at what these ladies have to say.

the philosophy of freedom is the foundational work of rudolph steiner. this is one of his earlier works put together is this book which gives some great insight into the basics of his philosophy. anthroposophy inspired many different concepts that bring the lifestyle full circle, the most commonly recognized is probably waldorf education. i think to understand the parts of anthroposophy that make it complete it is essential to know the root of it.

for me this really is so inspirational and another huge part of what i hope to teach O throughout his life.

i borrowed some great craft magazine photographs from the work rooms flickr page but then as always when i look a little closer i found something even better. the work room is a toronto craft space for sewing. basically you pay by the hour to use their equipment.

but it doesnt stop there they also offer classes with so much variety.

i wish i had a place to go so i was inspired to sew. they also blog here.

when O was born i was always a little disappointed with the lack of stylish clothing for boys. there are endless cute dresses and bloomers for little girls but shopping for my little guy wasnt so easy. but i have found some of the sweetest outfits at this little etsy shop jack sprat. the name its self is cute a button but wait until you see her creations.

O has two pairs of pants from the shop and they are so well made and created so your child really does get alot of wear out of them. She adds extra length to the legs so they can be cuffed at first and rolled down later on.

shop owner Carie Arseneau just had her second child (a little girl) so she is slowly adding things as she makes them because of her new schedule. i would suggest joining her mail list (as i did) for updates on her new items.
